How We Started
Formerly known as Orondo Dollars for Scholars, Orondo Community Scholarships was established in 1994 by several community members dedicated to education. The all-volunteer Board consists of eight (8) members.
Since 1994, we have given scholarships in the amount of $218,735 to 168 former Orondo students. Students may attend any technical, community or 4 year college of their choosing. They may reapply for the scholarship up to 4 years.
Our requirements are few: Fill out our application by March 1st, attend Orondo School for 2 years sometime between Kindergarten and 8th, and have a G.P.A. of 2.0 or better.
In 2001, we established the Promise Scholarships. Working with the Middle School Staff, we encourage 8th grade students to complete a modified scholarship application to encourage them to dream about their educational future. 134 students have participated in this project. We award them with a certificate at the time of 8th grade graduation, and hold the monies in an account until they graduate from High School.
